Established in 1934, Plattsburgh Shoe Hospital has built a solid reputation for quality workmanship, dependable materials and exceptional service for over 70 years! Born in Silvi, Italy in 1894 my grandfather emigrated to America when he was 17. He found steady work in Plattsburgh, NY at one of the several shoe repair shops in town. 19 years later he eventually bought the business and created The Plattsburgh Shoe Hospital. My father began his apprenticeship in the 8th grade with mandatory hours after school, he shined shoes and waited on customers. Today at 89 he still works everyday. And now the 3rd generation. I learned the trade from my dad and started full time in 1980, and since then have seen many changes in the shoe repair industry. Today diversity is a key ingredient for success. With my knowledge of shoe repair coupled with almost 30 years of climbing experience, repairing rock shoes has become an area of steady growth for our shop. We undertook our first resoles in the mid 80;s only after constant requests from fellow climbers “hey ,can you put a new sole on these?”.Those first resoles were fun , but we knew there was definite room for improvement. In the 90’s climbing really became a mainsrtream sport. High performance shoes with sticky rubber soles and the availability of new adhesives helped us to perfect our craft. And now with 14 years and hundreds of resoles under our belt, I think we’ve pretty much got it down. Our customers seem to think so too: from Cathedral to Rumney, and the Dacks to the Gunks we’re becoming your northeast connection for rock shoe resoles. Guide services, rock gyms, outdoor education programs, and hundreds of individual climbers have all praised the fine craftsmanship and attention to detail found in our resoles. The bottom line is performance: that’s why we use 5.10 Stealth or LaSportiva XSV rubber for all our resoles. Nothing else comes close. So, you’ve finally broken in those cool new shoes and they feel just right! But now the rubber is starting to wear and you just can’t edge the way you used to. Be kind to one of the most important pieces of equipment you have …..your feet. Wearing your shoes down to the bone won’t do much to help your technique, but a week at the resolers will recharge their performance, keep your feet happy and save you a little money. Our shop is full service, and set up with the most modern shoe repair machines in the industry. We can meet all your shoe care needs from shoelaces to leather conditioners to a total rebuilding of those $200 Cole-Haan dress shoes. Mark Meschinelli
